Incoming College Freshman Application Scholarship

The Michigan Rubber Group currently is offering a scholarship for incoming college freshman. The Michigan Rubber Group, a Subdivision of the Rubber Division, ACS requires:

(1) Regular mail package containing the Scholarship Application, two Nomination letters, and essay to be mailed and postmarked no later than January 31st.

2. This Scholarship will be awarded to an incoming college Freshman with a “B” 3.0 or better academic average as shown in their unofficial High School transcripts.

3. Scholarship applicants must enroll in a fully accredited university or college in a country where Rubber Division, ACS has a resident subdivision or partner organization – currently USA, Canada, Mexico, Brazil or India.

4. Applicants must have a major area of study in Polymer Science, Materials Engineering, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or any other technical discipline of relevance to the rubber industry.

5. This scholarship, with a single, non-renewable stipend of one thousand five hundred dollars ($1,500), is applied to one academic year (fall and spring semester) and is to be used toward total tuition expenses. Checks are mailed directly to the college or university.

6. No scholarship winner will be an immediate family member of anyone involved in the administration of the scholarship program or the selection of its winners.

7. Scholarship winners will be introduced to the attendees of the Michigan Rubber Group March Technical Meeting.

Technology Training Award

1. Michigan Rubber Group, Subdivision of the Rubber Division, ACS requires one (1) regular mail package containing the application and two nomination letters be mailed and postmarked no later than July 31st.

2. Award winners receive a one-time stipend of up to $1,500 for the year they are selected to cover their travel, hotel and food costs while attending a Rubber Division, ACS Spring Technical Meeting or Fall International Elastomer Conference. Eligible expenses are On-Site Classes, Seminars and Workshops, Technical Meetings and Science & Technology Awards Banquet. The cost of up to $1,500 will be paid by Michigan Rubber Group to Rubber Division, ACS on behalf of the winner. If for any reason an award winner cannot attend a meeting the year they are selected, they are eligible to take the Rubber Division’s online courses: Basic, Intermediate and/or Advanced Rubber Technology that same year at a cost of up to $1,500.

3. Previous applicants, including previous winners, may reapply each year.

4. Technicians and production personnel are eligible for this award and are not required to be members of Rubber Division, ACS, nor are they required to be members of Michigan Rubber Group.

5. Candidates are chosen on length of employment in the rubber industry, academic achievement, strength of the nominating letters and other supporting documentation.

6. No award winner will be an immediate family member of anyone involved in the administration of the Rubber Technology Training Award or the selection of its winners.

7. The winner will be introduced to attendees of the Michigan Rubber Group September Technical Meeting.

Undergraduate Scholarship

1. Michigan Rubber Group, a Subdivision of the Rubber Division, ACS requires one (1) regular mail package containing the Scholarship Application, two Nomination letters and essay to be mailed and postmarked no later than September 30th.

2. Applicants must be enrolled in a fully accredited university or college and have a major area of study in Polymer Science, Materials Engineering, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or any other technical discipline of relevance to the rubber industry.

3. This Scholarship will be awarded to an incoming college Junior or Senior with a “B” 3.0 or better academic average, and a minimum of three (3) semesters or five (5) quarters completed as shown in the official transcripts. The winner will have a serious interest in full-time professional employment in the rubber industry upon graduation and will show promise of a productive future as a technically trained professional.

4. This scholarship, with a single, non-renewable stipend of one thousand five hundred dollars ($1,500), is applied to one academic year and is to be used toward total tuition expenses. Checks are mailed directly to the college or university.

5. Previous applicants, including previous winners, may reapply in their Senior Year for a second and final year of possible scholarship support.

6. No scholarship winner will be an immediate family member of anyone involved in the administration of the scholarship program or the selection of its winners.

7. The Scholarship winner will be introduced to attendees of the Michigan Rubber Group November Technical Meeting.
